Your pair of hearing aids are an important part of every day life. When it comes to your five senses, you should take things seriously. If your glasses get dirty, you clean them, right? The same thing should hold true for your hearing aids - they need to be cleaned regularly to prevent wax buildup and to make sure your user experience is as good as possible.
In this article, we'll go over how to properly clean and care for your hearing aids in order to ensure the longest possible lifespan for your devices (and the best possible experience for you).
1. Turn off and charge your hearing aid every night
First and foremost, make sure your hearing aid is charged every day! At night, before you go to bed, just plug your hearing aids into their included USB charging inserts.
Make sure you turn off your hearing aid before plugging it in. Being sure to turn off the device when it's not in use will increase battery life every day as well as increase the total lifespan of your unit.
2. Clean your hearing aid regularly with included brush
We recommend cleaning your hearing aid and hearing aid ear tips as often as every day. Wax buildup is completely normal and expected, but it can cause big problems in functionality if not addressed regularly.
To clean your hearing aids and ear tips, use the included cleaning brush. Remove the ear tips from the device, and use the brush to remove any wax, dirt or debris from the ear tip and from the device itself.
The ear tips may be run under warm water, but make sure that they are completely dry before reattaching to your device.
3. Order new accessories regularly
Often, excess ear wax, dirt or debris can cause problems with a hearing aid. Getting these materials stuck in the hearing aid can cause feedback, blockage of sound, or other issues. For that reason, we recommend you buy replacement ear tips once per month.
You can clean your tips with a brush, but after around 2-4 weeks of use, it's best to just get new ear tips, which can often lead to a better seal and improved overall sound quality!
For the EV1, all you need to do is replace the ear tips. It doesn't have a built in wax guard, so you just need to replace the tips monthly and be sure to use the cleaning brush often. You can get an EV1 accessories kit here. Get the kit sent to you monthly for only $8/mo and make sure your device is always taken care of. The kit comes with a new cleaning brush, replacement tips and a spare volume tool.
The EV3 has wax guards that need to be replaced as well as the ear tips. We recommend changing the wax guards weekly and the ear tips at least once per month. You can get the EV3 accessories kit here. Subscribe and save to get the kit for only $9/mo. The kit comes with cleaning brush, ear tips, new wax guards and volume tool.
Overall, it's not hard to take care of your hearing aids. All you have to do is remember to turn it off and charge it at night, clean the ear tips and devices regularly, and order new ear tips a few times a year.
Otherwise, just enjoy your newfound hearing! It's really that simple.
